Second string fight out draw at Doncaster

Doncaster 2-2 Preston North End

Preston North End's second string battled it out against Doncaster Rovers, the match finishing 2-2. The trip across to Yorkshire was the second string's first ever league match, with manager Jimmy Atkinson looking to get off to a good start.

Preston took the lead midway through the first half after good work from Allan Cookson down the left forced the Doncaster defence into an error, as the ball was deflected in via a Doncaster boot. Rovers levelled towards the end of the first half, the Doncaster forward seemed to handle the ball on his way in on goal, sliding the ball past Gaz Pugh in the Preston goal.

North End fell behind in the second half after some poor marking from a Doncaster corner. One of the big Doncaster defenders volleyed the ball home at the back post to give the home side the advantage. Preston rallied on as they looked to get back into the match.

Preston threw everything but the kitchen sink at Doncaster and finally got their goal after some good work down the right flank. Stuart Bolton latched onto a pull back from Steve to fire home. Preston pressed again but couldn't find the winner. A draw was a fair result on the day.
