3-2
When Bury went 2-1 in front half way through the second half I thought here we go again. We had bossed the first half and then deservedly went in front just after the break, but they say your at your most vulnerable when you've just scored and we switched off big time for their equaliser. It got even worse for us as we were still sorting our heads out when they went 2-1 in front.
That was difficult to take, but I was impressed the way we kept our composure and tried to get back into the game the right way, by playing football and not just going route one, even though there was not long to go! However as the second half progressed I felt we were beginning to run out of ideas when Chambers injury forced me into a substitution. Jimmy Higgins was always coming on but it threw me out when it was Chambers who left the field.
However it helps when you know your players so I decided to stick Kershaw down the right and push Jason up front with Alan with Jimmy holding the fort with Chris Singleton. I also pushed into midfield as an extra man, obviously putting pressure on our three lads at the back, but with 10 mins to go we had nothing to lose.
Even a draw wasn't good enough, we had to win and with a few minutes remaining a simple three man move saw Jason break free to hammer the ball home for a deserved equaliser. There was only one winner now and Jimmy Higgins who's done this before for us got on to a knock down just outside the Bury box and gleefully hammer home the winning goal.
It was no more than we deserved. Bury had worked hard to get their noses in front but we new that was not a fair reflection of the game and these two late goals sealed a deserved victory for us. I would like to thank all my squad for today. It was a difficult call naming the team but this was a game we needed to win and if we hadn't I would probably have got some stick but I felt I called it right and the scoreline will say I did.
There was no man of the match, I will give it not to the team but to the whole squad. The lads on the line gave us great support and a lot of you have got to make sure you do the same for us next week as you step into the breach.
I would also like to thank Peschi for keeping the tempo of the game going when we were 2-1 down by chasing after the ball when it went on the running track. I thought that was brilliant of him and he played a crucial part in our second equaliser by grabbing the ball enabling us to take a quick throw which led to our equalising goal.
The lad must have been gutted he wasn't involved but to raise above his own feelings and do that for the team takes somebody of strong character and like I say I was really proud of him! Cheers to all the lads today and I am happy that we finally proved that our style of football can come out on top against teams like Bury.
