Crewe started the game the more lively and their middle three were full of running yet we should have took the lead first only for Chris Singletons close range effort came back of the post. Crewe showed us how to do it a few minutes later, their lad making no mistake when clean through. Andy Dodwell got us back on level terms scoring one of his specials only for Crewe to score right from the restart. Back we came and our second equalizer took us into half time on level terms.
I made a couple of changes at half time mainly to try and give Anthony a but more support up front. The changes gave us a fresh outlook and saw us pull away from Crewe with three further second half goals. Crewe stayed with it and deserved their second half consolation mainly for sticking to their principles of trying to play through us instead of hitting it long like they were in the first half.
Thanks to all the lads who came and it was good to give everybody a decent run out. Special praise for Anthony who work tirelessly up front and Gareth Marks who came away with the man of the match award.
Footnote; It was good to have a run out especially after the hammering the 10 men took at Southampton before xmas. We can play better and we will have to, their are some big teams out there but I'm sure we will be ready for the challenge when it arrives.
