PNE 0-0 Tranmere Rovers

Preston faced North West rivals Tranmere Rovers in their second group stage match at WorldNET 2005.

The two sides had already met in a friendly earlier on in the season, Preston winning 2-0 on that occasion.

Confidence was high after the great start against Leeds. Manager Steve and assistant Dale had to change things around after Jason picked up an injury in the 3-0 win over Leeds.

Nick came in for the right winger and slotted in at left back. Tranmere never really caused Preston any problems, only having one or two attempts on goal.

Preston had to great chances to take the lead, both coming from center back Addy. Addy made two surging runs from defence and let fly from all of 30 yards, Tranmere's keeper dealt with both shots.

Preston were determined to get a goal, as they pushed forward looking for a winner. North End won a string of corners, only for the best chance to go wide of the goal.

Jason who came on as a second half sub, was subbed again for striker Des, where he almost scored with his first touch. Mike crossed the ball into the box, only for Des to place his header inches wide of the goal.

The score line finished 0-0, a tough game for the Preston players.
