PNE
                  1-3 QPR
            Preston
found themselves in the last 16 of WorldNET 2005 against the
                favorites Queens Park Rangers.
            Allot
had been said about our latest opponents, QPR had their own fitness
trainer, who took the competition really seriously.
            The
match started brightly, wild challenges flying everywhere. QPR's
No.5 had a confrontation with Preston left winger Johnny, which
saw him almost sent off in the opening minutes.
            Tempers
rose, bad tackles and foul language was quickly squashed by the
referee. "I'm God, this is my pitch" quoted the man
                in the middle.
            The
hot heads calmed down, as QPR took the lead soon after. The QPR
striker who went on to score a hat-trick smashed the ball into
the top left corner passed a helpless Chris in goal.
            The
first half finished 0-1, Preston were still in the game. North
End pushed forward in the second half, looking for someway back
in the game. All the pressing Preston were doing didn't pay off
as they were caught on the break by the London team.
            QPR's
No.9 rounded Chris to make it 0-2. Preston heads didn't drop
at this point in the game, they had to salvage something from
                this match.
            Out
of the blue Preston found themselves right back in contention.
The goal came from another training ground set piece, just the
same as the near miss in the Doncaster game. This time the ball
did managed to cross the line, the scorer was center back and
                star defender John.
            Confidence
was sky high once more, Preston believe they could do it. Only
for QPR to hit the third and final sucker punch. Hat-trick it
was for the QPR forward. Game over it was, the match finished
                1-3.
            North
End were out, after a fantastic first ever WorldNET tournament.
Things can only get better for the Preston players, being together
only a few months shows how well the lads have bonded as a unit. |
