PNE 1-1 Bury

After picking up 4 points in the first two group matches Preston found themselves already qualified into the knockout stages.

Assistant manager Dale wanted to win this game, to win the group outright. Preston changed to a more attacking formation as they looked to top group 9.

Nick filled in at left back, pushing Johnny to the left wing and Andy going up front. Virtex was dropped to the bench. North End started brightly, catching Bury off guard. Bury were thinking they were in for an easy game, think again.

North End took the lead, it was Andy yet again who came up with the goods. Andy was played through down the left wing via an excellent pass from Johnny. Andy ran onto the through ball and slotted the ball past the advancing Bury keeper to make it 1-0.

Bury never really found away into the game, as Preston looked to double their advantage. North End played excellent from front to back, with keeper Chirs not having a thing to do all game.

The final whistle game ever closer when disaster struck. Preston were caught on the break as Bury surged forward to grab the equalizing goal. The white failed to clear their lines as the Bury striker shot the ball past the entire Preston defence.

Not a bad result in reality, Preston felt hard done by as they failed to win the group. Off to the bar the squad went for a well deserved pint!
