PNE
8-0 Sheff Wed
Preston North End ran out comfortable winners against
their Yorkshire opponents on the opening day of the season. Preston
fielded a strong team, in which was a strange match.
Half of the Sheffield Wednesday got lost somewhere,
so a number of the Preston lads swapped the yellow of Preston
for the blue and white of Wednesday.
Preston didn't take long to get out of the blocks,
Chris Chambers showing Wednesday how it's done. Chris fired North
End into a 1-0 lead with a good effort. Chris doubled his tally
for the game, firing home another great strike to beat Jimmy
in the Sheffield goal.
Chris Chambers will fight Andy all the way for
this seasons top goal scorers medal. Preston kept pushing forward,
whilst dealing with the little danger which
they were
put under.
More
goals
came
for North End, this time Jason found the back of the net after
some good work from Preston.
The match turned into a rout as North End found
their shooting touch. Last season's top goal scorer Andy, found
the net with a left footed effort. North End went 5-0 ahead which
was the goal of the game. Jason took on the whole of the Wednesday
defence and the keeper to nod the ball home for his brace.
Johnny Kershaw got in on the act, driving the ball
home from 15 yards with a sweet left footed shot. Preston kept
driving forward, winning numerous corners in the process.
The next goal came direct from a corner kick, Steve
getting on the end of an inch perfect cross to direct the ball
into the top left corner. Sheffield Wednesday almost scored from
their own half. Chris was off his line from the center kick,
the Wednesday player shot from his own half only for Chris to
finger tip the ball over the bar.
Overall this was a good workout for the lads, with
more competitive games coming up. |
