PNE
3-4 Northern Ireland
It
was an excellent game this morning, with both teams playing
some good football. Northern Ireland took the lead early on
with a simple tap in. It didn’t take long for North End
to level the score line. It was Andy who took his chance well
to beat the Northern Ireland keeper to level the score.
Northern
Ireland scored from a corner to re-take the lead. Slack marking
gave the visitors the lead with a clean header. Their lead
was extended to 1-3 with a half volley from inside the box.
Andy then scored his brace for the morning when he was set
free in on goal. Andy raced in on goal then lobbed the onrushing
keeper to make the score 2-3.
North
End made some second half changes. Lewis came on for Jason
and then scored a nice goal with a sweet volley when put through
by Pete. Northern Ireland just nicked the winner towards the
end of the game, to make it 3-4. Chris had another great game
in goal but he couldn’t hold on to the ball as the Northern
Ireland striker tapped the ball home. North End pushed for
another equaliser but failed to do so.
John
looked to have put Preston back in the game when the ball looked
to have crossed the line. Steve floated a free-kick to the
back post where John slid in to put the ball goal wards. The
ball looked to have gone over the line as Northern Ireland
cleared the ball after a goal scramble. Pete could have earned
a draw when he sliced a good chance at the death.
Well
done to all the lads that took part, I thoroughly enjoyed playing
the 90 minutes of tense football. All round it was a fantastic
performance from the lads in white. Taking into account that
this was the second game in two days, not even the professional's
do that!
