How
Preston found themselves 1-0 down at half time only they will
know. Both Preston's wide men found themselves with time and
space to get endless amount of crosses in but with a mixture
of bad luck and poor finishing Preston found themselves 1-0
down at the break.
Manger Steve Cowell decided to stay with the team that finished the first half
as Millwall took the kick off to start the second half. But the visitors who
were fortunate to be ahead at half time took the game to Preston at the start
of the second half and it was no surprise when they raced into a 2-0 lead within
8 minutes.
Preston
Manager then made a double substitution taking of both his
forwards who had found it difficult to get anything of the
Millwall back four bringing on both Potter and Lewis with Jason
and his brother Andy moving over to take the role of twin strikers.
Slowly Preston began to assert themselves on the game and it
was no surprise when Andy reduce the arrears to 2-1. 28 goal
Andy began to torment the Millwall back line as Preston put
Millwall under sever pressure
Pete the right back who had played well in the first half had tired at the
start of the second half and was replaced by Atky. Preston continued to take
the game to Millwall but the visitors were still capable of playing controlled
football and after a slick passing move from the visitors a Millwall player
so a goal bound shot clearly handle on the gaol line by a Preston player. The
ref either unsighted or thinking it was ball to hand wave away the strong protest
form the Millwall players.
The game continued to flow from end to end with Preston looking
especially strong down the flanks. With 10 minutes to go the Preston
manger threw his
last substitution on, off went Johnny the central midfield player and on came
young Dan with the Preston "Player Manager" pushing himself into
his normal position in centre of midfield with Dan slotting in at the back.
Andy
blazed wide when it look easier to score as Preston pushed
Millwall further and further back. Steve the player manger
was encouraging the lads at the back to try and play the ball
out of defence something he strongly believes in and it was
from this sort of situation that Preston managed to finally
and deserved draw themselves level.
Mike the Preston left back who hardly put a foot wrong all afternoon played
a superbly weighted pass down the line to Potter, Potter kept the momentum
going moving the ball first time on to Steve, Steve showing his vision played
a superb ball down the inside left channel completely splitting open the Millwall
back line.
Andy
letting the ball do the work waited till Lewis had made his
near post run before playing a delightful chip to the near
post. Lewis racing above his marker got his head to the ball
and watched as the ball lifted over the helpless goalkeeper
and into the back of the Millwall net.
Cue
wild celebrations from the Preston contingent but it was no
more than they deserved. The referee decided that was enough
and blew for full time and ended what was an enthralling entertaining
game. Preston had finally halted Millwall 29 winning streak
and if it was not for some unfortunate luck in the first half
could have easily come out of this game with a deserved victory.
