Preston North End recorded their forth win of the season over a youthful Hull outfit. Hull made the trip across to Preston for the 2:00pm kick-off.

All the players managed to get the afternoon off to play in this fixture, representing their home town club. It was Hull City that made the better start to the match, keeping the whites on their toes early on. Hull’s early pressure paid off when they took the lead after 10 minutes.

The Preston defence was stretched as the ball was played over the top for the Hull forward to slot the ball home. This was a real test of character for North End players, their heads didn’t drop as the battled on. The visitors kept the pressure on the Lilywhites, trying their best to catch Preston on the break with the long ball over the top.

Preston started to play some good football as they got a foot-hold in the match. The pure persistence of the boys in white paid off as the got their just rewards. Andy Dodwell was played in on goal from the left. The nippy forward cruised past the Hull backline to roll the ball into the back of the net.

North End started to get on top of Hull City causing problems for the visitors defence. As the half time whistle beckoned Preston took the lead. North End’s second goal came from a defensive mix up, the Hull centre back hacked at the ball to send it high in the air. Andy ran onto the loose ball to round the keeper for an easy tap-in.

The second half was another intensive half, some crunching tackles and some good football on show. The Preston backline and the midfield were working well as a unit, almost creating the third goal. Andy was set free down the left, only to be hacked down in the box by. The Hull defender was sent off for the tackle and discontent.

Pete stepped up to take the resulting penalty, only for the Hull keeper to pull off a great save down to his right.

PNE manger Steve made some changes midway through the second half to freshen things up. Preston eventually extended their lead via top scorer Andy Dodwell. His pace and power out-ran the Hull defenders to smash the ball home for his hat-trick goal.

Preston almost got their forth goal when Ash was played in on goal from the midfield. Ash controlled the ball well then released his shot which came crashing off the bar. Confidence was running through the team, all the lads heads held high. Chris in goal was commanding his area, claiming the ball well after a succession of Hull corners.

North End went from strength to strength in the final quarter of the match. Andy incredibly bagged his forth goal of the afternoon when he dinked the ball over the onrushing Hull goalkeeper.

Hull City went onto score a late consolation goal to make the score 4-2. The Hull forward went on a mazy run into the box, the tired legs of the Preston players failed to get a foot on the ball as in hit the net. A few more chances were created as Hull we’re pushing for another goal. The match finished with North End winning by two goals.

This was an excellent performance from the Preston players. A well earned victory drink was due.
