Preston
North End 4-2 Fulham
Preston won the toss and decided to stay as they
were so it was Fulham who kick off and it was Fulham who started
the game more
brightly. Preston we’re being pinned back as Fulham
took the game to their opposition. The right hand side was
were
they were mounting most of their attacks and it was from
a long diagonal
ball over the top of our full back that saw Fulham take the
lead.
A quick positional change by the Preston Manager so they threat
nullified and as a result it was Preston who now were seeing
more on the ball. A couple of half chances were missed before
young Matty took responsibility into his own hands and fathom
the equaliser out of nothing. It was a quality goal by a quality
player.
The game flowed from end to end before Preston worked a free
kick down the right hand side of the Fulham defence. Andy Dodwell
who had created the gap, then latch onto the ball to out run
his marker before waiting for the right moment to deliver his
cross to pick out Dave our central defender who had come in
unnoticed at the back post, there was still a lot of work to
be done but Dave but he showed great composure before tucking
his shot away into the bottom corner. A great finish to a great
move.
Fulham even though they had a tough game yesterday refused
to lie down and a controversial moment arrived when the ball
looked like it had crossed the Preston line. But both the linesman
and the ref were not convinced the ball had crossed the line
fully. Their were shades of 1966 with the ref going over to
the linesman but this time the decision went if favour of the
defending team the outcome was a corner to Fulham.
Fulham did not let this get them down and continued to press
and enjoyed their best spell of the game. However the luxury
of a couple of fresh legs something Fulham didn't have finally
turn the game in Preston favour. Fulham were leaving a few gaps
at the back and as a result of couple of subs coming on it was
Preston who claimed the vital 3rd goal.
This was from was another quality move before finally being
put away by the young sub who was making his debut Chris. But
Fulham still refused to accept defeat and came back again scoring
a good goal to make sure everybody was kept on their toes for
the final 10 mins. But Preston scored their final goal due more
to tired legs on the Fulham part then anything done by Preston.
Massive thanks must go to Fulham who look and played their
part in a great game of football. Credit to them for coming
all this way and playing two games in two days. I think all
the plaudits should go to them for that effort. Well done Fulham
and we will return the favour the first chance we get!
