North End ran out convincing winners at Crewe. Preston won
the match 4-1 with goals from Andy (2), Lewis and Steve got
his second goal of the season. North
End sent a strong team to Crewe, only John and Jimmy missing
from the squad. North End failed to find the net into the first
half after some impressive football. Preston
were playing some neat build up play only for the final ball
going astray. It was Crewe who took the lead after nine minutes.
The goal came from a cross on the left, the Crewe striker headed
the ball home from five yards. Two
North End players were on the back post, both watched on as
the ball hit the back of the net. North End pressed and pressed
as they looked for away back in the match. Allan had a good
chance to put the whites ahead, stand in keeper Jimmy made
an excellent save to deny Allan. The
first half came to an end, Crewe still one goal to the good.
North End started the second half brightly, scoring the leveler
minutes after the restart. Andy scored his first goal of the
afternoon, his shot on goal was deflected into the goal from
                  the Crewe defender. Preston
capitalized on Crewe's fatigue as they went on to cruise the
match. Lewis gave the Lilywhites a two goal lead after his
shot was again deflected into the back of the net. Player manager
Steve Cowell grabbed his second goal of the season. The goal
resulted from some good play down the left wing from Johnny.
Johnny sent the ball into the box for Steve to tap the ball
                  home from close range. Andy
then put North End 4-1 to the good, with an audacious lob from
outside the box. Jimmy who was standing in goal for Crewe made
another great save from Lewis's drive on goal. Meanwhile Chris
in the Preston goal didn't have anything to deal with all match.
The preston defence played outstanding through out the match. Des
could of made it 5-1, he failed to find the net from the penalty
            spot. |
