Coventry 6-4 PNE

Preston played some good football as they visited Coventry City, playing in the shadow of the impressive Ricoh Arena. Slack marking from Preston was the downfall as we went down 3-0. The ball finally went our way as Ash tucked away a brilliant PNE move to pull a goal back for North End.

We went into the break 3-1 down, looking to salvage something from the match. North End were rewarded a free-kick from 20 yards out, Mike stepped up for the set piece. Mike hit a sweet left footed shot which came crashing off the underside of the bar and into the net.

North End we’re now in the ascendancy, with Coventry looking to hit Preston on the break. It was another first time scorer, Dave who levelled the score line. The goal came from another free-kick which was deep inside the PNE half. Dave launched the ball into the box, which flew past everyone including the keeper to loop into the net, 3-3.

There was only one winner at this stage, North End! Things turn a turn for the worst, as two defensive cock ups gave the hosts two goals on a plate to make the score 5-3 to Coventry. Andy grabbed a goal back with a nice volley from 20 yards, as North End pushed on. Another defensive mix up put the match to an end as Sky Blues finished the game off 6-4 to the good.

Some good football was on display from the North End side, taking into account the team was thread bare. The key players will be back in the coming weeks as manager Steve Cowell prepares his team for the biggest match of the season, Stockport County in the quarter final of the IFA Cup.

Well played to everyone who made the trip, the team was as follows:-

Chris, Pete, Atky, Dave, Des, Ash, Mike, Steve, Dan, Andy, Allan

Subs: - Potter, Matty, Tom.

The lads then went on to watch the professionals beat the Coventry City, to all but secure their playoff place.

6-4
