North
End were on the road again after the midweek win over Hull
City. A strong PNE squad made the trip across the Yorkshire
Pennines.
North
End started brightly, having a lot of possession in the first
half. Preston had many chances in front of goal, but failed
to take their chances.
Allan
and Andy, the PNE striker partnership both missed some good
chances, Barnsley didn't know what to do. The chances started
coming for Barnsley, as they took the lead with their first
real shot on goal.
Chris
filling in as a makeshift center back tripped in the box to
let the home striker in to score the opener. North End couldn't
find the net in the first half as the first 45 came to an end.
After
a good half time team talk the lads started off again. North
End got their reward for being patient and never giving up.
Top scorer Andy Dodwell managed to drill a low shot with his
right foot past the keeper at the near post.
North
End started to take the game to Barnsley, a few of the home
players were being treated for cramp through out the match.
Preston took the lead soon after, after some good build up
play.
Ash,
making his first start on the right wing managed to control
the ball just outside the box and nod the ball past the helpless
keeper. The preston players looked on to build on there lead.
North
End couldn't add to their lead as Barnsley levelled the score
after a defensive mix up from Preston. The PNE defence failed
to clear the ball for the Barnsley striker to nip in to equalize.
Preston
almost won the game a the death. Sub striker Pete hit the upright
with a curling shot. It was a well earned point for North End,
a good point away from home. |
