Preston went into their final game of the group stages needing just a single point to progress to the next round. A win would see Preston top the group, facing one of the second placed teams in the next round.

Preston dominated the majority of the match, creating many good chances in front of goal. North End fired blanks in the first half, but kept plugging away looking for that vital goal. The first half ended without any score, Preston looking the most likely to hit the net.

North End playing some good football took the lead with five minutes to spare. Dan picked up the ball down the right side of midfield then delivered a telling cross to the back post. Chris was positioned perfectly to nod the ball home from close range.

Mansfield created one chance which forced Chris Hall to make a fantastic save down to his left. Preston held on to take the three points and top the group finishing on seven points. Preston can look relax and look forward to the next round.
