Leicester City 2-8 Preston North End

It was another good test for us today. Leicester
had some good strong lads playing so it was another test to see
if we have what it takes to be top of the league.
Leicester kicked off with a slope and wind advantage. It was
a big heavy pitch but we are used to a big pitch so I didn't
see that as any problem to us, but Leicester started the better
and it wasn’t long before their big and I mean big Center
Forward made his mark on the game. He bypassed our two central
defenders as if they weren't there and rifled home a beauty 1-0
Leicester.
Game on, Back we came and after a series of blocked shots Andy
managed to deflect one of them into the far corner 1-1. Back
came Leicester and after a free kick had bobble around our penalty
box for a few seconds it was a Leicester City player that finally
latched onto it and rifled it home 2-1 Leicester City. Then cam
an amazing moment Andy cutting in from the right unleashed a
beauty from fully 30 yards, the keeper somehow got a hand to
it and managed to flick it onto the crossbar!
Back out it came and the onrushing Chris Chambers caught it
just right as he volley back towards what he thought was an empty
net but somehow the Leicester City Keeper recovered his composure
and flung himself back across goal to keep that one out as well.
I thought shit! it's going to be one of those games i even turned
to their center forward and said, maybe today is your day mate" But
the lads are made of sterner stuff and didn't let it get to them
and just before half time we got the all important second equalizer
to make it 2-2 at half time.
I told the lads there was nothing wrong in their first half
performance only that we needed to move the ball quicker from
back to front. Do that, i said and we will "do them".
Five minutes into the second half and with the slope and wind
advantage in our favour it was soon 3-2 to Preston. Where we
had the character and passion to come from behind twice now it
was Leicester turn to show if they had the bottle to come from
behind against us! But we didn't give them chance as Jason hammed
home the forth shortly after.
Their heads had gone now and went down on to completely overrun
them finally winning the game 8-2. But that score line doesn’t
really reflect the tightness of the game. For 50 mins the game
was up for grabs but it was us with or never say die attitude
and stronger character that won through in the end!
It was an even more impressive performance when you realise
that not only where we without John Orton, Chris Hall and Mike
but arriving at PNE Car Park i found we were also missing our
two best players from last week in Little Ash and Tim. Credit
to the lads who made the journey and played in the match today.
And with the senior team winning as well it makes for a great
weekend.
